The year 2011 is most definitely the year of Soul Cartel’s breakthrough. After their first release on Roog & Greg van Bueren’s label “Hardsoul Pressings” this rapidly got super busy for both gentlemen, David van Ansem and Nicolas Vesters, who are to be called Soul Cartel when they’re behind the decks together.
That they are musically talented, goes without saying.. But the ability to grow and exceed theirselves time after time is a quality that defines these men. “You are as good as your last production / gig” is their motto, on which they spend lots of hours in either their studio or clubs.
With several performances in 2011 in amongst others Escape Venue Amsterdam, Bungalow 8 Amsterdam, Supperclub Amsterdam, Club Seven The Hague, Club Vie Rotterdam, Trix in the Mix Festival, Matrix Chersonissos; Soul Cartel has been working to share their love for music with their audience. And it works. Their fan base is growing exponential.
On top of that, there is more.. The many hours they have spent in the studio are clearly appreciated by globally acknowledged big labels. To name an example, Shawnee Taylor is a big fan of theirs, which caused the possibility for two collaborations. Two fruitful collabs, we dare say. Two tracks have been signed with Subliminal Records (soon release). Oh yes, you’ve seen that right. The one and only Erick Morillo’s label. Morillo himself was really enthusiastic about the raw versions of the tracks that he immediately adapted them into his DJ sets. This made Soul Cartel to be overwhelmed with remix requests and other requests for solo projects from many different labels. Mainly UK labels are charmed by the sound of the Dutch duo, but also the Dutch Sneakerz Muzik requested a remix for Carl Tricks’ Back in da Club. Their free Calvin Harris ‘Flashback’ remix was downloaded over 2000 times in just one day.
Soul Cartel is on the move. Next, it were the two gentlemen from Copyright which rang the Dutch David and Nicolas. He had heard one of their tracks and got more than enthusiastic. The track was signed on Copyright’s label Copyright Recordings. This label is a sub label from the infamous Defected, the place where the Gods of House Music sign all of their tracks. The track ‘Marimba’ did a great job, for example: #1 Traxsource House top 100, #1 Traxsource House Essentials, #1 Defected Store, #2 Traxsource ‘Overal’ top 100, #10 Dance-Tunes House top 100. The track got released on the Azuli presents Amsterdam 2011 cd and the Defected presents Beach Clubbing Pacific CD, and was voted by people from all over the world as one of the 10 ‘Most Rated’ tracks from Defected.
